America and Freedom: two concepts

What is ‘America’? And what is ‘Freedom’?

Before and beyond their stereotyped use, these concepts are referred to a universal, conceptual identification they have for any human being.

‘America’ is the appealing dream that attracted all emigrants from traditional countries where they were born and bred but constantly deceived by the historical oppression imposed by every institutional regime limiting their ‘Freedom’. The ultimate choice for the emigrants ended in the question ‘better free of bearing the costs of each own’s destiny than paternally protected by the occasional enlightened ruler’.

Occasionally in the course of History that dream got its incarnation in America a territory where only the redskin nations were used to live a pre-biblical style of life.

The natural style of rule that was installed in that ‘dream territory’ was therefore a post Nation States one characterized by rejecting any attempt to establish ‘top down’ sort of paternalism and replace that style of government with a ‘bottom up’ one based upon ‘Freedom’ in any human activity (speech, religion, defense, enterprise, association, vote, local government, mutual solidarity, etc.); the very concept of ‘Conservatism’ is embodied in the Spirit of ’76 that rejected ‘fundamentally’ the old-style top down regimes historically experimented in the Nation States age.

This progressive event in human history started a natural set of dramatic changes in the civilized world.

Beyond the natives, any of the new immigrated individuals had the right to be ‘American’ by free-adhesion to the ‘Revolutionary’ subversion of values embodied forever in the Constitution as stated by the Founding Fathers. From the sworn share of the constitutional dream-values any national individual would become an ‘American’; America became therefore THE revolutionary obliteration of the old-times concept of multi-national, multi-confessional, multi-cultural conceived under the Nation States regimes. Irish, Danes, Finns, Dutch, Swedes, Germans, French, Italians, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indians, Hebrews everyone is ‘American’ if they are inspired by the secular faith as stated in the USA Constitution, disregarding their national culture, family dialect, level of scholar education, religious creed, income level, personal skills or any other historical diversity splitting apart society in the old Nation State regimes.

The ‘American’ dream stated in the USA Constitution is not promising the free of charge top-down delivery of ‘welfare’ but the mere individual freedom from external constraints to build the very personal concept of happiness; the mere right to ‘Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness’.

The government revolutionary task turned from the top-down delivery of equal amounts of ‘welfare’ into the removal of any external constraint to earning better living conditions; all elements founded upon a sort of bottom-up statement of freedom as perceived by each individual full responsibility.

In this sense ‘American’ is anyone dreaming to become a member of that ‘extended society’ characterized just by their sharing a common secular faith in ‘America’ as a revolutionary political concept.

In the same sense many of the ‘American’ citizens may prove dramatically un-American if they sponsor changes of the USA Constitution along the old-times concept of top-down Nation States’ regimes where government was entitled to grant equal amounts of welfare disregarding the peculiar, different wishes and results earned by individual endeavor.

Changes to the ‘conservative’ concepts of the revolutionary USA Constitution are un-American if they revert the straightforward, easy to perceive meaning of the statements.

Freedom of speech and press shall not be ‘interpreted’ by any wise intermediation of institutional scholars, wikileaks by Assange ARE constitutional, the ways he adopted to access those ‘covert’ information may be wrong and subject to criminal law.

Any ‘executive power’ entitling the President to impose State Secrets shall be enforced by a due handling of information whose adequacy is a personal ‘responsibility’ of the President himself and the personnel he has allowed handling the information.

Censorship is not allowed by any means and no censorship criteria can be imposed by a top down style of rule. Not even justified by moral criteria. Rewriting Mark Twain novels by suppressing ‘words’ considered today ‘politically incorrect’ is a typical procedure of Nation States, old time’s Ancien Regimes unacceptable by no means according to ‘American’ concept of freedom. Nigger is referring to subjects characterized by tanned skins. They cannot statistically be classified under an unique profile of culture, religion, education, behavior or human charismas. A subject of Somali nationality has nothing to share with a Nigerian, an Eritrean, an Ethiopian, a Bantus, a Tutsi or one of the Africans living in the Americas since generations. I would feel offended if anyone would even think to be able ‘protecting’ my honorability by ‘forbidding’ to address me as a ‘nigger’. An ‘American’ nigger would be proud to show that, non withstanding his poor and distressed family conditions, he has been able thanks to living under the ‘American Constitution’ to reach outstanding performances in politics (Condoleezza Rice), in the military (Colin Powell), in music (Joe Armstrong), in social actions (Martin Luther King), in the show business (Sammy Davis jr.) in the movie (Denzel Washington). Receiving protection by top-down procedures is a typical paternalist remedy offered to ‘subjects’ by enlightened Ancien Regimes. Any true ‘American’ would feel offended and reject being taken care of through ‘food stamps’ sort of support delivered him as if he was a ‘crippled’ impaired by nature to earn his daily bread as any other new wave of immigrants did. Italians started being considered ‘Dagos’ by the English speaking majority of better educated ‘American’ fellows. They struggled earning gradually their improved social status of today with no charity nor ‘protection’. They can today feel proud of their status of ‘free and brave’ Americans as any other fellow of different national origin; exactly since they ‘earned’ that status thanks to their endeavor beyond the benefit of any special support that would be against the very spirit of the American Revolution as the ultimate fulfillment of the Western Civilization.

Nor can be justified any censorship on historical readings or religious events pretending they may ‘offend’ the national, confessional or ethnical minorities. In ‘America’ there aren’t minorities any longer, everyone is an ‘American’ and he accepts feeling ‘offended’ as an aspect of his status of ‘free man’ ‘brave’ enough to read, reject, object or discard any information among the global capital of ‘free press-speech’ contributes. In old time Europe freedom of speech and press can be limited by top down decisions of censorship like it took place under the ‘official’ encyclopedia of the URSS and Third Reich where even books on physics received a politically correct version as ‘German Physics’. Like it still takes place today in several Nation States where ‘denying the holocaust’ isn’t merely questioned it is forbidden by the criminal law.
